Communicating with your Health Care Provider

This brings us to another goal of this seminar, how to effectively communicate with your doctor and health care providers.

Chapter 1 - “Medical Care” – presents the following sections to help you achieve this goal.

The information presented in this part of the seminar will enhance the information in Chapter 1.

 

It takes know-how and effort to establish a good  relationship with your doctor and health care providers. What are some things that you expect?

  • Mutual consent

  • Good communication

  • Mutual expectations

  • Time spent together

  • Mutual goals

  • Shared effort

 

 

 

 

 

You and your doctor or health care provider both play a part in setting up and maintaining a good relationship. What are some of the things you bring to the relationship?

 

Some examples include:

  • Intuition

  • Past experience

  • Description of symptoms

  • Values

What do you expect the provider to bring to the relationship?

Perhaps such things as:

  • Knowledge

  • Expertise

  • Experience

  • Honesty
