The 4 Rs
Responsibility

The focus of communicating with your doctor or health care provider can be summarized in the following four “R” words – “Responsibility,” “Reporting,” “Recording,” and “Requesting.”

“Responsibility” means that you are in charge of your health and need to be accountable for the decisions you make regarding your health care needs. Being assertive when talking with your doctor or health care provider is a big part of this. Assertiveness means letting your doctor know what your needs are in an honest and direct way. It involves “I” messages, such as “I need help,” or “I am having blurred vision since taking this medicine,” or “What do I need to do?”
