Chapter 6 gives information on ways to stay well and prevent disease. It starts with “Ten Basic Steps to Stay Healthy & Safe.” These are listed on page 39 of your Healthier at Home® book. Included are common sense things like get at least 6 to 8 hours of sleep per night; wash your hands often; and have regular screenings and exams, which we will address later. |
The next pages in this chapter have a “HealthyLife® Risk Appraisal.” Do this on your own to help you estimate your life span based on your age and health habits. Most of the pages in this chapter give information and guidance to improve your health habits. Topics include physical activity; nutrition; weight control; cholesterol; tobacco cessation; stress management; and wise use of alcohol. The last three pages have checklists for personal safety, home safety, and healthy travel.
